Skin Health Β· Nutritional Therapy

The itching, the flare-ups, the endless rotation of creams β€” let’s look at what’s underneath

Eczema is one of the most common skin conditions, and one of the most frustrating to live with β€” the itching, the visible flare-ups, creams that help for a while and then stop working as well. Increasingly, research points to the gut as a major driver of eczema, particularly where it doesn’t respond fully to topical care alone.

We offer personalised nutritional therapy support for people living with eczema, taking the time to understand your individual triggers, gut health and history.

Understanding Eczema

What’s really going on with eczema, and how can nutrition help?

The skin is often described as a “third kidney” — a route through which the body clears out what the gut and liver can’t fully process. Where the gut microbiome is out of balance, or specific foods are triggering an immune reaction, this frequently shows up on the skin as inflammation.

We start with a free discovery call, then a thorough look at your health history, diet, lifestyle and skin pattern, before building a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan aimed at calming things from the inside out β€” always alongside your GP or dermatologist’s care, never instead of it.

Nutritional therapy is not a medical treatment, and we don’t claim to treat, cure or prevent eczema. What we offer is personalised nutrition and lifestyle support for your general wellbeing — using ordinary, accessible food and practical guidance.

How nutrition can support eczema

Where the gut microbiome is out of balance, or specific foods are triggering an immune reaction, this frequently shows up on the skin as inflammation.

  • Identifying and removing individual food triggers may calm the immune system’s response at the skin
  • Supporting balance in the gut microbiome addresses one of the most common underlying drivers of eczema, rather than only addressing symptoms topically
  • Essential fatty acids may help rebuild the skin’s natural barrier, reducing moisture loss and sensitivity
  • Specific nutrients such as zinc and vitamin D support immune regulation and skin repair
  • Addressing gut permeability (“leaky gut”) may reduce the passage of inflammatory triggers into the bloodstream in the first place

Lifestyle factors matter alongside diet — stress, sleep, and environmental triggers such as fragrance or harsh detergents can all influence flare frequency. Because the skin renews itself over several weeks, meaningful change usually takes a little patience, and we generally recommend following a nutrition programme for at least 8–12 weeks to give the gut and skin time to properly settle.
