Hives that flare with little warning β€” let’s look at what might be driving them

Urticaria, or hives, can be as unpredictable as it is uncomfortable β€” raised, itchy welts that can flare with little obvious warning, and sometimes shift around the body from day to day. Urticaria is increasingly understood to have links to the immune system, histamine handling and gut health.

We offer personalised nutritional therapy support for people living with urticaria, taking the time to understand your individual triggers, gut health and history.

Understanding Urticaria

What’s really going on with urticaria, and how can nutrition help?

Urticaria often involves the immune system and histamine response, with gut health playing a role in how settled that response is. Rather than looking at the skin in isolation, nutritional therapy looks at what may be contributing to flares from the inside.

We start with a free discovery call, then a thorough look at your health history, diet, lifestyle and symptom pattern, before building a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan aimed at calming things from the inside out β€” always alongside your GP or dermatologist’s care, never instead of it.

Nutritional therapy is not a medical treatment, and we don’t claim to treat, cure or prevent urticaria. What we offer is personalised nutrition and lifestyle support for your general wellbeing — using ordinary, accessible food and practical guidance.

How nutrition can support urticaria

For some people, particular foods, gut imbalances or histamine load may be worth exploring alongside medical care.

  • Identifying individual food and histamine triggers may help reduce flare frequency
  • Supporting balance in the gut microbiome addresses a driver of immune reactivity for some people
  • Essential fatty acids may help modulate the body’s inflammatory response
  • Specific nutrients such as vitamin D support balanced immune function
  • Addressing gut permeability (“leaky gut”) may reduce the passage of inflammatory triggers into the bloodstream

Lifestyle factors matter alongside diet — stress, sleep and environmental exposures can all influence flare frequency for some people. Because every case is different, meaningful change usually takes a little patience, and we generally recommend following a nutrition programme for at least 8–12 weeks to give the gut and immune system time to properly settle.

Important: Nutritional therapy is a complementary approach that supports general health and wellbeing. It is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and we do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent urticaria or any other medical condition. The information on this page is for general education only. Always consult your GP or a qualified healthcare professional about any medical condition or symptom, and before changing your diet, lifestyle or supplements — particularly if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical care. Never stop or change any prescribed medication without first speaking to your doctor. Individual results vary and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.
